Overview of The Karoo Project
This diagram attempts to describe the architecture as simply as possible. The Karoo Project organises "rocks" (actually discreet computer applications) into a hierachy. Each "rock" can be on the same host computer as other rocks, or it can be on a different computer. The actual location of the rock, (which computer its actually on), is known to The Karoo System, but it does not affect its operation, other than to have an effect on the efficiency of the system as a whole. Although the "rocks" are actually discreet programs, the "application" is the sum of all the parts (all the "rocks"), no matter how many host computers they are actually running on. In the diagram, a host computer is illustrated by a dashed box. The clients (in this example) all connect via "the web" to the surf gateway, which then routes the messages to the rocks. Messaging in The Karoo Project is all using UDP (efficient and light weight). But the web clients are actually using HTTP, because thats all they have at their disposal, but the "surf" gateway converts to/from UDP/IP and HTTP/TCP/IP. Next...
