What distinguishes The Karoo Project?
The main difference is that The Karoo Project was not designed with scientific applications in mind. Most "Supercomputers" are designed for doing huge calculations. The Karoo Project is designed with database applications in mind: useful for business applications.. Most "Supercomputers" are truly huge, and only affordable by large research organisations, and even if they are not huge, they are exotic. The Karoo Project is intended to be a next genertion application platform for pretty normal, though large, applications... so that they can scale as the demand increases. A typical user of The Karoo Project could be a bank, a government agency, or any online service provider. If I'd begun it a few years ago, maybe Google would have been interested... The Karoo Project also focusses on reliability and robustness issues. It provides a very robust framework - free of possible race conditions, memory trashing, or memory leaks.
